Have you ever said something mean or hateful to someone and then followed it up with “I was just kidding?” Or, told someone a lie and when it’s found out, you say, “I was only joking.” Everyone has probably used those phrases at some point in their lives, especially when it was convenient. If it’s ever happened to you, allow these wise words from Proverbs to guide you:
“Just as damaging as a madman shooting a deadly weapon, is someone who lies to a friend and then says, ‘I was only joking.'” – Proverbs 26:18-19
It’s best not to say something if you later have to tell the person “I was only joking.”
